Democracy

Wow, it's only been a week since I last wrote! It seems like so much time. So, I've finally decided that my blog doesn't need a theme, direction, motive, or anything like unto it. Instead, this is me. This is my mind. These are my thoughts and how I view the world. I guess that is a theme, but really, my blog is all about what I want to say to the world! So world, here comes today's thoughts and today I'm in a very thoughtful mood. I've been thinking a lot about myself. Don't worry, I'm not thinking about how talented or great I am (can we say egotistical?) but more about things that I can improve on. As I was thinking about this, I stumbled onto facebook and saw an invite for a group called " We need a compromise on the USU student fee increase - Lower it." Now, if you didn't know, there's been a huge controversy lately about this proposed fee increase to support athletics...blah blah blah. In case you're wondering I voted against ...

Carpe Diem

I'm alive! I know surprising since I haven't written in forever. Life just hasn't been very proactive for me lately and I find when I'm not trying to accomplish anything, I have nothing to write about. However, I've been thinking a lot lately about my life and the universe and everything (42, for all you Hitchhikers out there) and I've realized I need to make a change in my life. I've decided I need to carpe diem (seize the day, for those like me who aren't others and don't speak Latin). I've decided it's time for a change! For the last little while I've been sitting back, waiting for life to lead me wherever. I haven't had a lot of goals, directions, desires or wished. I haven't made a lot of choices. I haven't accomplished a lot of things. Mostly I've just sat in my room doing homework, playing racquetball occasionally, and learning the guitar. Well enough of that! Watch out world, here I come! So that being said, what a...

New Year

Well, I haven't posted in a while. Such is life. I was thinking about this blog and what I should keep writing about. The idea of defining myself was fun, but I really ran out of things that define me. The fact is, my interests, personality, morals, and characteristics are always changing. Sometimes I wish I were a cowboy and others I want to run for president. The fact is, there's only one way to know who I am and that's to get to know me personally. So it's time for a new topic. I don't know how long this will last, but I came up with this 2 minutes ago while I was chatting with someone on facebook about my new goal to not be pathetic. 2 minutes ago I decided that I was going to set a new year's resolution to be less pathetic. "But it's not new years today", you may say. Well that's true, but everyday starts a new year. So for now my topic will be the random things I've decided to set as new year goals, each and everyday. We'll see ho...

Musical Inclinations

Boo! It's me again. Did I scare you? Probably not, seeing as you are here reading my blog, but I figured it was a worthy attempt in honor of Halloween. Maybe it would be more appropriate to sing a Christmas Carol or something since Halloween is over. I hear FM 100 has already started playing their Christmas songs. How exciting! I love this time of the year. Anyway, thanks for reading. I've really had troubles trying to decide what part of myself to define next. There's been a lot on my mind lately, but as I've started writing this post, I've never been able to finish it. Until now. I finally came up with the next thing that defines me and it's music. I love music! It's been a huge part of my life and continues to influence a lot of what I do. It's funny how my interests have changed over the years. I hope you don't mind while I reminisce a little bit about my life with respect to music. My earliest memories of music include a lot of country music whi...

Imaginator Extraordinaire

Image
I felt like it's time for another self-defining blog posts, but I couldn't think of anything amazing to write about. Then I realized something so extremely unique about myself that I couldn't help but spew out this amazing gift on my blog. I am an Imaginator Extraordinaire. I know what you're thinking and yes, I am that cool. Okay so maybe you weren't thinking that. In fact, you're probably thinking, what the heck is this guy talking about? (Next week I will tell you about how I'm psychic and know what everyone's thinking, but for now will stick with this). Well, I love to imagine. I love to dream. I love to get carried away on strange fantasies where I have some unique gift that can save humanity. I love to ponder about how I might act in different roles of life: as president, husband, CEO, TV star, or just plain old Joe the Plumber. (Couldn't resist...) I remember growing up I used to watch this show called Sliders. I used to imagine that it was re...

Ruler

I know what you're thinking. Two posts in one day....Tyler, you need a life. Okay maybe you're not thinking that, but I am. I decided to split this into a separate post because the previous one was more a precursor to the overall concept of this blog. So that being said, let me tell you what I've learned about myself today. In institute we were studying Adam and Eve and I discovered something that I really have tried to be in the past and understand better about myself now. In Moses 4:22, it says that Adam shall rule over Eve. I want that attribute. Now before you think I'm a sexist jerk, let me show you another scripture. If you look at Matt. 2:6 it talks about how Christ shall rule the people of Israel. The Greek translation (shown in the footnote letter d) explains what this means. To rule means to tend, protect and nurture. That's me, or at least what I've tried to be for most of my life. I love to care for people. I'm so looking forward to the day when ...

Unique

Surprise! It's me again. I'm back trying to figure out a little bit more about who I am. I've pondered this next post a lot. It's really easy to define the foundation that I am a son of God, but what do you say to follow that? Doesn't that pretty much say it all? The fact is, not really. I am a son of God and that's important, but the real question is what makes me unique? Why am I the person I am? What do I do for fun? What kind of person do I aspire to be? Well as I've pondered all this, I realized, I can't really prioritize the aspects of my life. So I'll just write them as I come up with them. This means that some posts might be very serious, while others are less important and seem like jokes. The fact is, that's my life. So, ready or not, here we go...
